Tracks like “Survival Tactics” (featuring Capital STEEZ), “Waves,” and “Hardknock” showcased Joey’s technical skill and old-soul wisdom despite his teenage age.

The mixtape’s title referenced both Joey’s birth year (1995) and the golden era of hip-hop he sought to channel. Production came from producers like MF DOOM, J Dilla, and Lord Finesse—legends from the 90s—giving the project authentic vintage sound.

Pro Era Movement

1999 launched not just Joey’s career but the Pro Era collective, including Capital STEEZ, CJ Fly, Nyck Caution, and Kirk Knight. The Brooklyn-based group represented alternative to mainstream rap’s commercial direction, embracing lyrical substance over viral moments.
