Origin & Impact
AutoGPT launched in April 2023 as an experimental autonomous AI agent that could break down goals and execute them independently. Videos showed it attempting to start businesses, write code, and conduct research with mixed (often comical) results. While far from AGI, it demonstrated potential for agentic AI and spawned numerous competitors like BabyAGI and AgentGPT.
