Overview

Blurryface is Twenty One Pilots’ fourth studio album, released May 17, 2015. The concept album personifies Tyler Joseph’s insecurities as “Blurryface” and became the duo’s commercial breakthrough, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 and spawning multiple hit singles.

Mainstream Success

“Stressed Out” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2017 Grammys. The song’s nostalgic lyrics (“Wish we could turn back time to the good old days”) and ukulele-driven production resonated with millennials’ economic anxiety. “Ride” and “Heathens” (from Suicide Squad soundtrack) also became top-5 hits.

Chart Achievement

Blurryface became the first album in history to have every track certified Gold or higher by the RIAA. The album spent over 230 weeks on the Billboard 200 and sold over 5 million copies in the US. The duo’s genre-blending rap-rock-electronic sound attracted a devoted fanbase (“Skeleton Clique”).
