#ChrisRockSlap
Chris Rock’s composed reaction and subsequent comedy tour.
Origin & Impact
Chris Rock’s restraint after being slapped on live TV impressed many - he recovered quickly, delivered iconic “Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me” line, and continued presenting. He declined to press charges and initially said little publicly.
His 2023 comedy special finally addressed it directly. The hashtag debated whether Rock’s joke justified slapping, comedians’ right to provocative material, and how he handled unprecedented situation. Rock turned the incident into career boost, with his tour tickets skyrocketing.
