Viral sped-up version of K-pop group FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid,” which became one of 2023’s biggest TikTok sounds and the fastest K-pop song to reach 500 million Spotify streams.

Song & Artist Background

South Korean rookie group FIFTY FIFTY released “Cupid” in February 2023 from their EP “The Beginning: Cupid.” The four-member girl group (Aran, Keena, Saena, Sio) had debuted in November 2022 with minimal industry buzz.

Both English “Twin Version” and Korean versions were released, with the English version becoming the TikTok phenomenon.

Viral Explosion

A sped-up remix of the Twin Version went massively viral on TikTok in March 2023, used for:

  • Romantic scenarios and crush content
  • Aesthetic montages
  • Dance trends
  • “In love” POV videos
  • The catchy “I’m feeling lonely, oh I wish I’d find a lover” hook

The sound accumulated billions of views within weeks.

Historic Chart Success

“Cupid” became the fastest K-pop song by a girl group to enter Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #17. It topped Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and reached #1 on Melon (Korean charts).

FIFTY FIFTY became the fastest K-pop group to reach 500M Spotify streams, achieving in 4 months what took BTS years.

Industry Controversy

The group’s success was followed by a bitter legal dispute with their agency ATTRAKT in 2023, with members filing contract termination lawsuits. The controversy overshadowed their musical achievement and highlighted K-pop industry exploitation issues.

Despite internal chaos, “Cupid” remained one of 2023’s defining TikTok sounds.
