Bass Music Festival Empire
#ExcisionLostLands celebrates Canadian bass producer Jeff Abel’s creation of Lost Lands Music Festival (September 2017-present), the world’s premier bass music and dinosaur-themed festival in Legend Valley, Ohio.
Excision’s Rise
Excision pioneered “heavy dubstep” and “riddim” subgenres with bone-rattling bass, sci-fi sound design, and aggressive drops. His Shambhala Music Festival sets (2007-present) became legendary for pushing sound system limits.
Albums Apex (2018) and Onyx (2020) showcased his evolution from brostep to refined bass music production.
Lost Lands Festival
Launched September 2017, Lost Lands combined bass music with prehistoric theming:
- Capacity: 40,000+ attendees
- Stages: 4 stages (prehistoric valley, caverns, wompy woods)
- Sound: World’s largest outdoor sound system (150,000+ watts)
- Headliners: Excision (3-hour sets), Illenium, Zeds Dead, Subtronics, Ganja White Night
The festival became pilgrimage site for “headbangers” (bass music fans) and featured production including animatronic dinosaurs, volcano stage design, and bass frequencies felt in chest cavities.
Paradox Tour & Sound Design
Excision’s “Paradox” tour (2019-2020, 2023) featured 150+ speakers, 1 million-watt sound system, and custom visual production. Shows routinely damaged venue structural integrity (literally shaking buildings).
Cultural Impact
- Festival creation: Lost Lands 2017-present (6+ years running)
- Sound innovation: Pioneered PK Sound systems for bass music
- Bass music mecca: Ohio farmland became pilgrimage destination
- Label: Founded Rottun Recordings, Subsidia Records
- Production records: Loudest outdoor music festival ever measured
