#FatPapi is the stage name of Baban Hussain, an Auckland-based Kurdish-New Zealander rapper whose June 2026 single “Freaked Out” — a collaboration with Perth producer prodshushy — became one of the summer’s most-used TikTok sounds after creator Jocelyn Meiere (“Bob Girl”) set a bob-haircut reveal to it and listeners misheard the lyric “get that bag” as “get that bob.” The misheard hook powered the “Reasons to Get a Bob” format, the song charted at #89 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Fat Papi became the first NZ rapper in years to break into the US mainstream.

Origin
Fat Papi had been releasing music out of Auckland since 2023 before “Freaked Out” turned him into a chart act. The Spinoff’s August 2026 profile described him as a working rapper in the New Zealand circuit who built a local audience without a radio push, then spent 2024 and 2025 developing collaborations in the Australasian scene — including the connection with Perth producer prodshushy that produced “Freaked Out.”
The Breakthrough Song
“Freaked Out” dropped on June 4, 2026. Songfacts described it as “a boastful, flirtatious rap track about attraction, confidence, and being completely overwhelmed by a lover’s energy.” The song’s hook turns on the line “get that bag” — a conventional rap boast — delivered in a cadence that, when stripped to a short TikTok clip, is easy to hear as “get that bob.” Two days after release, TikTok creator Jocelyn Meiere (@jocelynmeiere, often called “Bob Girl” or “Miss Diva Bob”) used the track under a sharp jump-cut to her bob haircut. Her video crossed 6.7 million views; by week’s end the audio was being used by thousands of other creators doing haircut reveals of their own, and the “misheard” hook became the point.
Peak Virality
The sound powered the “#ReasonsToGetABob” format — a deadpan on-screen list where every “reason” is just the word “bob,” matched to the beat drop — which TheTab, DailyDot and The Spinoff all tracked as one of July–September 2026’s biggest TikTok formats. Jocelyn Meiere’s follow-up videos regularly cleared the eight-figure-view bar, and the format spread well past hair into any list-of-reasons gag.
Commercial Success
On the back of the TikTok trend, “Freaked Out” climbed to #89 on the Billboard Hot 100, sitting between tracks by Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and Future. The Spinoff framed the Hot 100 appearance as a milestone: New Zealand rappers almost never chart in the US, and Fat Papi did it without a major-label US rollout — the entry was essentially TikTok-made. Songfacts logged the song’s cross-chart movement across Australia, New Zealand and Billboard’s global ranking.
Cultural Impact
Fat Papi’s run is a textbook late-2020s case of a short-form audio artifact rewriting a song’s trajectory. The track wasn’t engineered for a bob-haircut joke; a mishearing was. Once the mishearing locked in, the song’s identity on TikTok (and, soon, in the discourse around the song) became the misheard lyric — which in turn pulled the record onto the US charts. TheTab’s July explainer and The Spinoff’s August profile both treated the moment as a case study in how NZ artists can break out of a small home market via a specific creator’s video.
