The electric pressure cooker that became a cultural phenomenon through Amazon reviews and Facebook groups before filing for bankruptcy.

Amazon Algorithm Victory

Launched October 2010, the Instant Pot languished until the 7-in-1 Duo (2013) found product-market fit. Amazon Prime Day 2016 sales exploded, driven by organic reviews (90,000+ with 4.7 stars). The promise: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté pan, yogurt maker, and warmer in one $79-99 device. Home cooks loved one-pot meals that cooked in minutes.

Cult Following

Instant Pot Facebook groups grew to millions of members sharing recipes and tips. “Instant Pot Recipes” became a Pinterest category. The device penetrated 20%+ of U.S. households by 2019. Cookbook authors wrote Instant Pot-specific books. The brand transcended kitchen appliances—it was a lifestyle. Parent company sold 100+ million units globally by 2020.

Pandemic Boom to Bankruptcy

COVID-19 lockdowns drove massive sales as home cooking surged. But Instant Pot’s parent company (Instant Brands) had $500+ million in debt from acquisitions (Pyrex, Corningware). Post-pandemic sales declined—everyone who wanted one already owned one. In June 2023, Instant Brands filed for bankruptcy, selling assets to Cornell Capital. The Instant Pot itself lived on, but the meteoric growth story had ended.
