Kandi bracelets are handmade beaded bracelets exchanged by ravers at EDM festivals/events as physical manifestation of PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect). The tradition originated in 1990s rave culture, experienced mainstream resurgence 2010-2015 through EDC, Ultra, Tomorrowland attendees crafting elaborate multi-layer cuffs with messages, DJ names, and inside jokes.

Trading Ritual

Ravers use PLUR handshake to exchange kandi:

  1. Peace: Interlock fingers
  2. Love: Form heart shape
  3. Unity: Clasp hands
  4. Respect: Slide bracelet from giver to receiver

The ritual transforms bead trading into emotional connection between strangers.

Kandi Culture

Veteran ravers wear dozens of bracelets up their arms as badges of festival attendance. Rare/unique kandi (from favorite artists’ sets, special events, deceased friends) become cherished mementos.
