#LeclercSilverstone is the hashtag for Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc’s maiden British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone in July 2026, a chaotic race that ended a 624-day, 37-race Leclerc winless streak, was decided under safety-car conditions after pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli’s mechanical failure and Max Verstappen’s late crash, and delivered Ferrari an emotional first F1 win of the 2026 season in front of a record 564,000-strong Silverstone crowd.
Quick Facts
- Race: 2026 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, Silverstone
- Winner: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) — his 9th career F1 win, first at Silverstone
- Podium: 1. Leclerc (Ferrari), 2. George Russell (Mercedes), 3. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)
- Weekend crowd: ~564,000 (record)
- Drought broken: 624 days / 37 races since Leclerc’s previous win (2024 US GP)
- Race-defining events: Antonelli’s Lap-41 wheel-shield failure dropped the pole-sitter out of the podium fight; late Verstappen crash triggered the closing safety car
The Race
Kimi Antonelli started from pole in his Mercedes and led much of the early race, with Leclerc, Russell and Hamilton in pursuit. On Lap 41 Antonelli’s left-front wheel shield failed; he pitted twice, tumbled out of contention, and finished outside the points on a damage-limitation drive, classified in the mid-teens after track-limits penalties on the return. That handed the front of the race back to Leclerc, with George Russell chasing home second for Mercedes and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton — his 16th Silverstone podium — completing a Ferrari 1-3.
Late in the race, Max Verstappen — battling out of the podium places after an off-strategy Red Bull weekend — spun heavily and crashed, triggering a safety car that closed out the rest of the race. Verstappen’s post-crash radio (widely circulated in edited compilations on the FIA app and TikTok) drew its own headlines. When the race ended behind the safety car, Leclerc took the flag for the first British Grand Prix win of his career and the first Ferrari win of 2026.

Cultural Impact
The hashtag became the container for two overlapping stories — Leclerc’s overdue return to the top step and the “moments you might have missed” B-plots that make British GP weekends: the LEGO drivers’ parade in which Verstappen played bumper cars into the back of Lando Norris, Olympic champion Mo Farah waving the chequered flag, the Lionesses in the paddock. Together they gave Silverstone one of its most-shared weekend gallery cycles of the season.
