Micro-Mobility Survivor
Lime launched June 2017 (initially LimeBike) competing with Bird in dockless electric scooter wars. #LimeScooter tracked expansion to 100+ cities, $800M+ venture funding, and scooter clutter/vandalism controversies mirroring Bird. Peak 2018-2019 saw dozens of competitors; consolidation 2020-2023 left Lime as primary survivor after acquiring Jump (Uber’s bikes/scooters).
Market Maturation
Lime differentiated through: better city partnerships, expanded bike options, operational discipline, and surviving COVID collapse that killed Skip, Lyft scooters, and others. The hashtag evolved from chaos (sidewalk obstruction, injuries, vandalism) to normalized urban transport option. By 2023, Lime operated sustainably in select cities with regulations/parking zones—no longer revolutionary but utility.
