Egypt’s Trap-Mahraganat Fusion Star
Mohamed Ramadan became Egypt’s most-watched musical artist by blending mahraganat (Egyptian electronic street music) with trap, creating high-energy tracks and extravagant music videos. His actor-to-musician success (starring in Egyptian action films) and controversial persona made him Egypt’s biggest entertainment export of the 2010s-2020s.
Tracks like “Mafia” (2018, 600M+ views), “Numero Uno” (2019), and “Bum Bum” (2021) dominated Arab charts. His videos featured luxury cars, private jets, and designer fashion—aspirational content for Egyptian youth. However, controversies plagued him: a 2020 photo with Israeli singer Omer Adam sparked backlash in Egypt (where Israel relations are sensitive), leading to temporary bans and public apologies.
Despite controversies, Mohamed Ramadan remained Egypt’s streaming king, with billions of YouTube views and sold-out concerts across the Arab world. His fusion of mahraganat’s street roots with international trap production influenced a generation of Arab urban artists.
