#NYFWSS27 is the September 10–15, 2026 edition of New York Fashion Week — the Spring/Summer 2027 season — which doubled as the first NYFW held fully fur-free under the CFDA’s now-mandatory policy and leaned on debuts and comebacks rather than megabrand spectacle. The week opened with Henry Zankov’s first collection as Diane von Furstenberg’s new artistic director, counted 10 first-time schedule debuts (Conner Ives, Magda Butrym, Sabyasachi Mukherjee among them), and closed with Thom Browne’s return after a season spent on Paris couture.

What Happened
The CFDA’s preliminary SS27 calendar, released in July 2026, set the week’s two throughlines: ten NYFW schedule debuts and the first fully fur-free edition. FashionUnited’s September 7 preview and The Impression’s calendar read framed the season as a reset — fewer megabrand slots, more designers on their first or second NYFW outing, and comebacks from Tommy Hilfiger, Monse and threeASFOUR after schedule absences.
Zankov’s DVF debut on September 10 was the week’s single most-covered show. The appointment itself had been announced in May 2026; the SS27 collection was Zankov’s first chance to apply his signature knitwear experimentation and expressive color palette to a 50-year-old wrap-dress archive. Thom Browne closed on September 15, returning to NYFW after his July Paris couture show.
Hypebae’s post-show best-of named Coach, Cult Gaia, Tommy Hilfiger, Sandy Liang, KidSuper and Collina Strada as the runways that pulled the most social reposts.
The Fur-Free Policy
Noticias Ambientales and FashionUnited both tracked the policy from its 2025 announcement to this season’s full enforcement. Every brand on the CFDA’s official schedule had to show without animal fur — vintage pelts and faux-fur substitutes stayed in. The ban had been under negotiation for years with animal-rights groups and designer associations; SS27 was the first season every house on the calendar had to comply.
Harlem’s Fashion Row
Two days before the official schedule opened, Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) held its 19th Annual Fashion Show + Style Awards on September 8 at The Glasshouse. The theme, “Peace by Piece,” reflected 19 years of designer-of-color platforming that long predated the CFDA’s integration of HFR-aligned designers onto the main calendar. The night included the SS27 debut of three ICON360 Runway Ahead Fellowship designers. TheGrio’s September 10 column read the HFR night as the week’s real opener and the pointed reminder “Black fashion has never waited for an invitation to New York Fashion Week.”
The Debuts
FashionUnited’s SS27 preview counted 10 NYFW first-timers on the schedule, including:
- Conner Ives — the London-based American designer whose “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt went viral through 2025
- Magda Butrym — the Polish designer behind H&M’s 2026 global collaboration, moving from Paris to NYFW
- Sabyasachi Mukherjee — the Indian couturier whose Byzantine-inspired Metropolitan Museum of Art jewelry collaboration preceded his first NYFW show
- High Sport, Patrick Taylor, Zaldy — newcomers to the official calendar
Legacy
The SS27 edition’s two long-term stories are the fur-free policy — the first season a decade of CFDA policy work got fully tested on the floor — and the Zankov appointment, the moment the Diane von Furstenberg brand placed its 50-year archive in a new designer’s hands. Thom Browne’s return added a familiar closer; the HFR opener continued a 19-year parallel platform. Whether SS27 is remembered as a reset or a transitional season will depend on the Zankov-era DVF business and on whether the fur-free policy survives any legal challenge from excluded designers.
