#OscarsSoWhite (created by April Reign, 2015) protested lack of diversity in Oscar nominations. 2015: All 20 acting nominees white. 2016: Repeated, Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee boycotted ceremony. Highlighted systemic exclusion (Selma, Creed, Straight Outta Compton snubbed). Academy responded: invited 683 new members (41% people of color, 46% women), diversified voting body. Results: Moonlight Best Picture 2017, Parasite 2020, CODA 2022, Everything Everywhere 2023. Movement sparked broader Hollywood diversity reckoning. Moonlight/La La Land mixup added symbolic weight to 2017 win.
