The Pornstar Martini — vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, lime, prosecco side shot, created by Douglas Ankrah (London, 2002) — exploded globally between 2018-2023, becoming the UK’s #1 cocktail by 2023. #PornstarMartini documented the sweet, visually striking drink’s controversial rise. The name (inspired by the idea of something “sexy, fun, and confident”) sparked debate; some bars renamed it “Passion Fruit Martini.” Despite critics calling it overly sweet, the cocktail’s Instagram appeal (floating passion fruit half, sidecar prosecco) drove sales. By 2023, Pornstar Martini sales surpassed Espresso Martinis in the UK, proving provocative branding and TikTok virality could create cocktail phenomena.
