Kenya’s Afro-Pop Ambassadors
Sauti Sol, Kenyan Afro-pop band (formed 2005), dominated East African music throughout 2010s-2020s with their blend of Kenyan benga, Congolese soukous, and contemporary pop. Their 2015 album “Live and Die in Afrika” won multiple awards, with singles like “Sura Yako” and “Nerea” becoming East African anthems.
The band’s 2019 “Afrikan Sauce” album featured collaborations with Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and Patoranking, positioning them as pan-African connectors. Their live performances (guitarist, vocalist, savara, bassist) showcased musicianship beyond typical Afrobeats production-driven acts. By 2023, Sauti Sol had international tours, festival appearances, and recognition as Kenya’s most successful musical export.
