Overview

“Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” is a collaboration between Jawsh 685, Jason Derulo, and BTS (remix version). The song originated from New Zealand producer Jawsh 685’s “Laxed – Siren Beat” (2020), which Derulo used without initial permission. The BTS remix reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2020.

TikTok Origins

The original beat went viral on TikTok with the “Laxed” dance challenge. Jason Derulo added vocals without crediting Jawsh 685, leading to legal disputes before they reached an agreement. The BTS remix (released to boost chart position) mobilized BTS ARMY to stream the song to #1.

Chart Success

The BTS remix spent four weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, becoming BTS’ third #1 (after “Dynamite” and before “Life Goes On”). The song was criticized for chart manipulation via multiple remix versions, but it demonstrated the power of K-pop fandoms and TikTok virality in the streaming era.
