Wholesome Creation Encouragement
Two Cakes Meme - comic showing person happy about second cake despite one existing - became internet’s wholesome response to “this already exists” creative discouragement (2019-2023).
The comic: Person 1: “I made a cake!” Person 2: “Someone already made cake.” Person 3: “TWO CAKES!” (excited face)
Message: Creating something that exists is still valuable; joy comes from making, not originality; enthusiasm over cynicism
Usage: Responding to creatives worried about unoriginality; fanfic writers, artists, musicians; encouragement
Anti-gatekeeping: Rejecting “this has been done” criticism; celebration of participation over innovation
Fanwork validation: Especially popular in fan communities; thousand AUs of same pairing all valuable
Contrast: vs. “Simpsons did it” culture; acknowledging nothing’s original while celebrating creation anyway
Wholesome internet: Rare positive meme; supportive, encouraging, anti-cynical
Application: Beyond cakes - two fanfics, two drawings of same character, two cover songs
Creator comfort: Permission to make things for joy, not just originality; process over product
Two Cakes represents internet’s occasional wholesomeness - choosing encouragement over gatekeeping, enthusiasm over cynicism.
