Origin & Impact

#DressLikeAWomanDay went viral after reports Trump wanted female staffers to “dress like women” (dresses, not pantsuits). Women flooded social media with photos in everything from business suits to workout clothes to armor, declaring all were valid ways women dress.

The hashtag celebrated diverse female presentation—power suits, hijabs, scrubs, jeans, traditional dress. It rejected narrow femininity standards and male-defined “appropriate” female appearance. The message: women define womanhood, not men.

The satirical protest showed social media’s power to flip sexist demands into empowerment moments. It joined #NastyWoman in the anti-Trump feminist hashtag canon.
