What It Is

Stefon Diggs’ 61-yard game-winning touchdown catch with no time remaining, giving the Minnesota Vikings a 29-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Divisional Playoff on January 14, 2018. Saints safety Marcus Williams missed a tackle, allowing Diggs to run untouched to the end zone.

Why It Matters

The play, known as the “Minneapolis Miracle,” is one of the most improbable endings in NFL playoff history. Case Keenum’s throw and Diggs’ catch came on the final play of regulation, eliminating the need for overtime. It occurred in U.S. Bank Stadium, with the Vikings hosting their home fans.

Impact

Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen’s call (“DIGGS! SIDELINE! TOUCHDOWN! UNBELIEVABLE!”) became legendary. The victory sent Minnesota to the NFC Championship (where they lost 38-7 to Philadelphia). The play is replayed constantly as one of the greatest playoff moments ever.
