What It Is
DeSean Jackson’s game-winning 65-yard punt return touchdown as time expired, giving the Philadelphia Eagles a stunning 38-31 comeback victory over the New York Giants on December 19, 2010. The Eagles trailed 31-10 entering the fourth quarter.
Why It Matters
The play is considered one of the greatest finishes in NFL history. Jackson muffed the punt, picked it up, and weaved through the Giants’ coverage team for the walk-off score. Giants punter Matt Dodge failed to punt out of bounds as instructed, allowing Jackson the return opportunity.
Impact
The loss cost the Giants a playoff spot and led to Dodge’s departure from New York. Jackson’s celebration became iconic, and the play is replayed annually as one of the NFL’s most memorable moments. It’s known as “The New Miracle at the Meadowlands” referencing a 1978 fumble disaster.
