The 2017 Philadelphia Eagles captured their first Super Bowl championship as underdogs throughout the playoffs, culminating in a 41-33 upset over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

The Underdog Story

After starter Carson Wentz tore his ACL in Week 14, backup Nick Foles stepped in and caught fire. Foles threw for 373 yards and 3 TDs in the Super Bowl, winning MVP. The “Philly Special” trick play (Foles catching a TD pass) became instantly iconic.

The Eagles were underdogs in every playoff game despite being the NFC’s #1 seed, wearing dog masks in celebration. The city of Philadelphia erupted — estimated 700,000 fans attended the parade. Fans climbed greased poles, and Jason Kelce’s mummers-outfit parade speech became legendary.
