Millions signed up to “Storm Area 51” in viral Facebook event.

Origin & Impact

A satirical Facebook event titled “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” scheduled for September 20, 2019, went viral as 2+ million people pledged to raid the classified military base to “see them aliens.” The event’s plan to Naruto run faster than bullets became instant meme material.

While most understood the joke, the Air Force issued warnings, nearby Nevada towns prepared for crowds, and thousands actually showed up to the desert (mostly to party, not storm). The hashtag documented the absurdity, Area 51 memes, Naruto running videos, and the “Alienstock” festival. It became 2019’s purest expression of internet culture manifesting IRL.
