#WomenStrike2017 (officially “A Day Without a Woman”) was a March 8, 2017 general strike organized by Women’s March organizers, calling for women to abstain from paid/unpaid labor, shopping, and wear red in solidarity.
The strike aimed to demonstrate women’s economic power and vulnerability following the January 21 Women’s March (largest single-day protest in U.S. history with 4+ million participants).
Criticized for being inaccessible to working-class women who couldn’t afford to miss work, the strike had mixed results but raised conversations about unpaid domestic labor and the gender wage gap.
