Origin & Impact
#TimesUp emerged from #MeToo as an organized initiative announced on January 1, 2018 (though forming in late 2017). 300+ Hollywood women formed Time’s Up to address systemic harassment across all industries, not just entertainment. The movement raised millions for legal defense funds.
At the 2018 Golden Globes, celebrities wore black and Time’s Up pins, bringing massive visibility. The hashtag expanded beyond celebrity activism to support women in agriculture, service industries, and blue-collar jobs.
Time’s Up pushed for legislative change, workplace policy reforms, and accountability for harassers. The organization later faced internal controversies but fundamentally shifted workplace culture conversations.
